VOTE FOR OUR FUTURE

My artwork explores the abstract nature of voting. This project is guided by creating the possibility of building connections between voters; to connect people who are most affected by these legislative decisions. Real connections cut through the abstracted nature of how choosing leaders and supporting legislation affects real people. The medium used is photography due to its unique ability to tell truths, to un-abstract reality. Even though images are made at the hand of a photographer and are easily manipulated through media transmission, the photographic image carries a certain kind of innate truth within it. This is why photographic images are so powerful to ignite moments of social change. This project allows youth to see themselves as leaders and have their voices amplified through street art and photography. The installation of these murals is to build strength in a community and to show the beauty that exists there. It also displays this new age of student activism and shows that these students are the ones who will make a change. These students have taken the role of community leaders and have engaged in a fight for our future.
